Winning ways of Walters
He is a winner as a head coach at the Ontario Hockey League level. Through six full seasons as an OHL bench boss with three different teams, Greg Walters — now of the Windsor Spitfires — has never had a losing record.
Perhaps the most underrated head coach in the entire OHL, the 55-year old Walters served a lengthy eight year apprenticeship as an assistant coach with the Sarnia Sting before getting the opportunity to lead his own staff.
To be sure, the winning ways of Walters as an OHL head coach cannot be challenged.
• In two regular seasons as the head coach in Oshawa, Walters guided the Generals to records of 44-20-4 and 31-20-11.
• In two regular seasons as the head coach in small market Owen Sound, Walters led the Attack to records of 34-26-8 and 33-28-7.
• And now, in two regular seasons as the head coach in Windsor, Walters has piloted the Spitfires to back to back West Division titles with rousing records of 45-17-6 and 44-15-9.
Do the math. Greg Walters is a winner.
