Winning weekend wrap up
Windsor Spitfires are back atop the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League … Windsor Jr. Spitfires of the Under 16 Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario rallied for a third period comeback conquest of the Elgin Middlesex Canucks … Over to the Provincial Jr. Hockey League, Mount Brydges Bulldogs took three of four points from the Thamesford Trojans to retain second place in the West Yeck Division.

SPITFIRES SNEAK INTO FIRST: Recovering from a nasty 7-2 road loss to the Kitchener Rangers on Friday, the Spitfires reclaimed first place on Sunday with a 4-1 home ice win over the Sarnia Sting. Beksultan Makysh, Liam Greentree, Nathan Villeneuve and Alex Pharand scored once apiece and Ethan Belchetz bagged a pair of assists for Windsor, which outshot Sarnia 28-11 in front of backup goalie Michael Newlove.
The Spitfires now have 70 points from a record of 32-11-6 and are just one point up on both Kitchener and Flint. The Rangers have a game in hand on both the Spitfires and Firebirds.
THREE ASSISTS FOR TRUDELL: The U16 Jr. Spitfires split a pair of weekend home games to remain in sixth place in the Alliance with a record of 10-12-4.

Gavin Diemer scored the lone Windsor goal in a 4-1 loss to the Waterloo Wolves. The U16 Spitfires then scored two third period goals to eke out a 3-2 decision over the Elgin Middlesex Canucks. Gavin Diemer, Nathan Mariuz and Roman Shtefan with the game winner clicked for Windsor while Carter Trudellassisted on all three goals. Ethan Dool got the win in the Windsor net.
U16 Spitfires head coach Matt Zuccato liked the effort of his team in the weekend finale win over Elgin Middlesex.
“In the first game we got down on ourselves and couldn’t recover. We have to realize we are going to make mistakes … it’s what we do after that mistake. We need to get back in the fight and forget about it. In our win (over Elgin Middlesex) we played great. The energy was there all game and we took it to them. I was very impressed with our effort. If we continue to play that way, it will help us win games down the stretch,” Zuccato relayed to Hockey News Windsor.
MOUNT B ON A SPREE: With a record of 6-0-1 in their last seven outings, the Mount Brydges Bulldogs are within three points of the first place Petrolia Flyers in the West Yeck Division of the PJHL. Mount Brydges managed three points on the weekend, losing 2-1 to Thamesford in overtime before skating to an OT win of its own over the Trojans, a 6-5 decision. Mount Brydges has a record of 22-14-3 with just three games to play in the regular season. Individually, J.J. Fogarty and Logan Gianellli lead the Bulldogs in scoring with 43 points each.
