Windsor Under 16 Jr. Spitfires head coach Matt Zuccato is stressing more of a compete level from his team on the defensive side of the puck as the ’25-26 season progresses in the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.

Matt Zuccato

Zuccato relayed that to Hockey News Windsor in the wake of the recent Alliance Hockey Showcase in which the U16 Spitfires lost three of four games. All games count in the Alliance Hockey regular season standings, in which the U16 Jr. Spitfires now have a record of 1-4-1. Overall this season, the U16 Jr. Spits have a record of 6-7-3.

As for the four games that the U16 Jr. Spits played at the Alliance Hockey Showcase — they defeated the Waterloo Wolves and lost to the London Jr. Knights, Huron-Perth Lakers and Brantford 99ers — Zuccato had the following to say to Hockey News Windsor, when asked about his team’s performance.

“We battled hard with a few regulars out of the lineup but we have to really limit our defensive mistakes because right now it seems when we make a mistake or miss an assignment, it ends up in the back of our net. We need to have more compete on the defensive side of the puck,” summed up Zuccato.
