It was a perfect two for two weekend for the Windsor Jr. Spitfires of the Under 16 level of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario.

The U16 Spitfires began with a 4-1 home ice verdict over the Cambridge Jr. RedHawks before scoring a 3-1 road victory over the Sarnia-Lambton Jr. Sting.

With the two weekend wins the U16 Spitfires are now in sixth place among the 11 teams of Alliance Hockey with an even record of 5-5-2. They have an overall mark of 10-8-4 this season.

U16 Spitfires 3, Sarnia 1. Holten McPhedran was in the net for Windsor and Roman Shtefan, Carter Trudell and Alex West all found range in the back of the net for the visiting Jr. Spitfires.

U16 Spitfires head coach Matt Zuccato summed up the winning weekend for Windsor to Hockey News Windsor.

“Against Cambridge we wanted to come out and continue to be tough to play against at home. I felt we did that early with some timely hits and being hard on the forecheck. We had some timely saves to allow us to keep a lead and build off it. Home cooking has been good for us so far,” Zuccato began.

“Then against Sarnia and being on the road, we wanted to make sure we started the game on time with our first couple of shifts. I felt we did that and continued to have some timely hits that led to some turnovers.  Our penalty kill did a great job and they got rewarded with a short handed goal that in my mind was the turning point of the game. We continued to get some solid goaltending that helped us again close out the game for a win. Playing short a forward, the boys stepped up,” summed up Zuccato.
