Sweet 16 for U16 Spitfires

The number of Under 16 level teams at the prestigious Toronto Titans Early Bird Hockey Tournament has been reduced from 48 to 16 following round robin play.

And the Windsor Jr. Spitfires, who finished first in one of the eight six-team divisions with a record of 3-0-1, are part of the group that is headed to the Sweet 16 portion of the event.

The top two teams in each of the eight divisions are among the surviving 16.

Jr. Spitfires head coach Matt Zuccato noted the overall compete level of his U16 team through the round robin in a message to Hockey News Windsor.

The Jr. Spitfires had wins over the Peterborough Jr. Petes, Mississauga Rebels and Whitby Wildcats and came away with a tie against the Reps Hockey Club.

Through the four games, Roman Shtefan sparked the U16 Jr. Spitfires on the offensive side with four goals, two assists, six points. Cooper Disher and Carter Trudell also contributed in a big way with two goals, two assists, four points each.

Between the pipes, Holten McPhedran and Ethan Dool (with a shutout) rotated games through the round robin.
