The soaring Spitfires gained more altitude on Thursday. Windsor won its third straight game to begin the ’25-26 Ontario Hockey League season, a 4-0 blanking of the visiting Sudbury Wolves before close to 4,200 fans at the WFCU Center.

Rookie centre John McLaughlin — Windsor’s first round pick at the 2025 priority selections draft — scored his first two OHL goals to spark the Spitfires.

McLaughlin was one of three Windsor rookies who had notable outings. Defenseman Jonathan Brown scored his first OHL goal and forward Caden Harvey had two assists. Harvey now has five points — all of them assists — in three games to begin his OHL career.

Holdover forward Nathan Gaymes rounded out the Spitfire scoring and overage goalie Joey Costanzo made 17 saves for the shutout. Costanzo now has a 2-0-0 record with an 0.50 goals against average and .973 save percentage to start the season.

Windsor, which has outscored its opponents by a 16-2 margin in three games, now heads on the road for a pair of contests this weekend. The Spitfires play the Barrie Colts on Saturday night before heading over to Oshawa for a Sunday evening match with the Generals.

All Spitfires games are broadcast live on radio station AM 800 CKLW with the effervescent Steve Bell on the microphone with the play by play.
