Spits sling Sting to start
Missing six regulars away at National Hockey League training camps did not stop the Windsor Spitfires from overpowering the Sarnia Sting by an 8-1 margin to begin the ’25-26 Ontario Hockey League regular season.

Cole Davis (in photo at left) scored three goals — a pair of them shorthanded — and assisted on two others to lead the visiting Spitfires to the decisive victory.
Rookie Beksultan Makysh tallied twice and fellow rookie forward Max Brocklehurst scored once as did sophomore skaters J.C. Lemieux and Ethan Garden while third year defenseman Carson Woodall had three assists.
Rookie Michael Newlove made 21 saves to post the win in the Windsor net.
The Spitfires, who are home to the London Knights tonight at 7:05 at the WFCU Centre, ran it up on Sarnia despite goalie Joey Costanzo (Philadelphia Flyers), defensemen Anthony Cristoforo (Dallas Stars) and Wyatt Kennedy (Detroit Red Wings) and forwards Liam Greentree (Los Angeles Kings), A.J. Spellacy (Chicago Blackhawks) and Jack Nesbitt (Philadelphia) all being away at NHL main camps.
