Spits spend the Knights but lose
The Spitfires held London to 36 shots in total in their season opening home and home series with the Knights but managed just one point from the two Ontario Hockey League matches.
In their ’26-27 season opener at London, the Spitfires outshot the Knights 22-18 but lost 3-2 in overtime.
Then, in Windsor’s home opener, the Spitfires held a 30-18 shot advantage only to lose 6-2 to the Knights.
Ouch.
Net Gain. While rookie goalies Charlie Weiss and Brian Cooke each posted victories for London, Windsor starter Michael Newlove struggled. Newlove allowed three goals on 18 shots in London and was pulled halfway through Windsor’s home opener after giving up four goals on just nine shots. Jake Windbiel would come in relief of Newlove in the second game and stop seven of eight shots before London iced the win with an empty net tally.
Spitfire Scorers. Rookie import Bogdan Yakushevsky scored two of Windsor’s four goals while rookie defenseman Drake Gram and hustling forward Max Brocklehurst found range once apiece.
