Spits sign two ’08 skaters
A forward and a defensemen with 2008 birth dates represent the two latest signings of Ontario Hockey League draft picks by the Windsor Spitfires.
They are hulking 6 foot 4 forward Hamza Havusic and 6 foot defenseman Drake Gram.
A product of the Greater Toronto Hockey League, Havusic was taken by Windsor in the first round of the 2025 OHL supplemental draft.
Spitfires general manager Billy Bowler commented on the signing of Havusic, noting that the forward “has a big frame with the ability to skate well. We see potential in this young man with his size and strength.”
As for Gram, the Spitfires snagged the Michigan product in the eighth round of the 2024 OHL priority selections draft from the AAA Detroit Little Caesars program. He has since played in both the North American Hockey League and the United States Hockey League.
Gram showed considerable excitement in signing an OHL package with the Spitfires.
“I could not be more grateful for the opportunity to play for the best coaches and management in the OHL,” gushed Gram. “The Spitfires fans create an electric environment and being so close to home gives me the opportunity to play in front of my friends and family.”
The aforementioned Billy Bowler, as the Spitfires GM, referred to Gram as ”a steady defender who we have been monitoring since we drafted him. We like how he has continued to grow and he can play any style of game.”
