Spits shoot down Rangers

A lengthy losing skid against the Kitchener Rangers — dating back to the second round of last spring’s playoffs — is finally over for the Windsor Spitfires.

A pair of empty net goals from Ethan Garden — his 14th and 15 tallies of the season — sealed a 5-2 win for Windsor over Kitchener this afternoon before close to 5,200 fans at the WFCU Center.

Caden Harvey — with his ninth and tenth of the season — also tallied twice for the Spitfires and Anthony Cristoforo clicked for his 18th of the campaign in front of workhorse winning goalie Joey Costanzo.

Giving the appearance of an arrogant, cocky team which plays borderline dirty hockey, the Rangers have the best record in the OHL over the past two months.  And Kitchener again displayed some cheap shot tendencies in today’s game.

Meanwhile, as Kitchener remains atop the Western Conference of the OHL with 94 points, the third place Spitfires moved to within two points of the second seed Flint Firebirds. Windsor, which now has 87 points from a record of 40-15-7, has a game in hand on Flint.
