Bryan Rose is returning to the Provincial Jr. C Hockey League as a head coach after an absence of five years. Rose has been hired to take command of the deck duties with the Port Stanley Sailors.

Rose had a previous association as a head coach in Port Stanley and also served in a similar role in the Provincial Jr. C loop for both the Lambeth Lancers and Aylmer Spitfires. He has most recently been a part of the Elgin Middlesex Chiefs minor hockey program.

Rose takes the helm in Port Stanley from Matt Bowes, who has moved on to Strathroy Rockets of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.

Port Stanley will set sail into the ’25-26 season following a rather successful ’24-25 campaign in which the Sailors finished in third place in the hotly contested West Yeck Division with 57 points from a record of 26-11-5. The Sailors then upended the sixth seed Thamesford Trojans in six games in the first round of the playoffs before losing to the Exeter Hawks in the seventh and deciding game of the second round.

Port Stanley is one of eight teams in the West Yeck Division. Among Port Stanley’s arch rivals are the Mount Brydges Bulldogs. Mount Brydges finished just two points back of Port Stanley during the ’24-25 regular season standings and like the Sailors, the Bulldogs also made it through two rounds of the playoffs.

The small southwestern Ontario towns of Port Stanley and Mount Brydges are separated by just over 30 miles.
