Windsor area product Landon Pickersgill is earning his place with the Leamington Flyers of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League. Indeed, Leamington head coach and general manager Dale Mitchell has extensive words of praise for the 6 foot 1, 190 pound rookie defenseman who has an October 30, 2008 birth date.

“Landon has adjusted extremely well. He’s handled the pace and physicality of the league and has quickly earned the trust of both the staff and his teammates. His preparation over the summer is evident in how confidently and consistently he plays,” Mitchell relayed to Hockey News Windsor.

Besides having a D1 NCAA commitment from the Lake Superior State University Lakers, Landon Pickersgill is an OHL draft pick of the Flint Firebirds

Mitchell added that Pickersgill’s “poise with the puck, strong skating, and ability to defend older players stand out. He makes smart first plays, reads the ice well, and his habits and work ethic are mature for his age.”

A seventh round pick by the Flint Firebirds at the 2025 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft, Pickersgill also has a Division 1, National Collegiate Athletic Association commitment from Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. And Mitchell outlined some of what Pickersgill needs to work on in order to play regularly at the next level.

“Continuing to add strength and speed is the main focus, along with refining puck skills under pressure. As he gets stronger and faster, it will help him win more battles and make quicker decisions against top competition,” noted Mitchell.

In summation, Mitchell told Hockey News Windsor that “we are very happy with Landon’s progress. His discipline and commitment off the ice show in his early success, and he understands the importance of maintaining strong habits as he works toward the next level.”

Through 24 regular season games to date for Leamington, which has a record of 15-8-1 within the Western Conference of the OJHL, Pickersgill has five goals, 10 assists, 15 points as the Flyers’ highest scoring defenseman.
