Vaccari is a mint for Flint

A fresh start in Flint is providing a net gain for overage goalie Mason Vaccari. Acquired by the Firebirds from the Kington Frontenacs for a few excess draft picks in an off season Ontario Hockey League trade, Vaccari has found new life in Flint.

Vaccari played three full seasons in Kingston and was better than average with an overall record of 49-45-7. But he was replaced as Kingston’s starting goalie at last season’s trade deadline when the Frontenacs obtained Charlie Schenkel from the Soo Greyhounds.

Then, with depth at the goalie position, the Frontenacs dealt Vaccari to Flint ahead of the current ’25-26 OHL season. And it has been so far so good for Vaccari in the Flint net.

Recent back to back shutouts over the Kitchener Rangers and Oshawa Generals have Vaccari with a 3-1-1 record, 2.75 goals against average and .914 save percentage.

Notably, Vaccari had only one career shutout with Kingston and that was back during his ’22-23 rookie season.
