Makaric has an Erie feeling
Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League have brought aboard the well prepared Kyle Makaric as a new assistant coach. A Windsor-Essex County product, the 37 year old Makaric has an extensive coaching background that includes the ’25-26 season as an assistant with the Saginaw Spirit of the OHL.
Besides being on the staff of the OHL Spirit and the University of Windsor Lancers, Makaric (in photo at left) has also coached in the Central Canada Hockey League, the Ontario Jr. Hockey League and the Greater Ontario Hockey League.
He has also scouted for the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL.
In going to Erie, Makaric will be joining an Otters club that has nowhere to go but up after finishing in last place in the Western Conference of the OHL in ’25-26.
Meanwhile, Erie head coach Kris Mallette commented on the addition of Makaric to his staff and why he was the right pick for the Otters.
“Kyle will bring a strong work ethic and hockey knowledge that will immediately strengthen our bench and maximize our players’ potential,” Mallette said. “We are excited to add another person who shares the same team-first culture mentality both on and off the ice. Kyle’s communication and overall skill set will be a valuable addition.”
As part of his duties as an assistant, Makaric will run the Erie power play.
