LaSalle Vipers top rookie

His hockey ascent continues. Homegrown defenseman Luke St. John, a 2025 Ontario Hockey League draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires, has been named rookie of the year by the LaSalle Vipers of the Greater Ontario Hockey League for the ’25-26 season.

The GOHL Vipers are an affiliate team of the OHL Spitfires.

St. John had originally signed with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires of the Under 18 level of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario ahead of the ’25-26 season. The 5 foot 11, 170 pound St. John scored five goals, three assists, eight points in just four games with the U18 Jr. Spitfires before signing with the Vipers of the GOHL.

The youngster then made quite an impression at the junior level with LaSalle. St.John tallied five goals, 10 assists, 15 points in 36 regular season games with the Vipers before tacking on four more assists in six playoff outings.

St. John, who has a 2009 birth date, was a 13th round pick by the Spitfires at the 2025 OHL priority selections draft from the U16 Jr. Spitfires of Alliance Hockey. He originally displayed offensive production from his defense position with the U16 Jr. Spitfires in ’24-25 with 14 goals, 13 assists, 27 points in 35 Alliance Hockey outings.
