It is now down to a best of three series between the upstart LaSalle Vipers and the Elmira Sugars Kings in the first round of the Greater Ontario Hockey League’s Western Conference playoffs.

Playing at home tonight before close to 1,000 spectators at the Vollmer Centre, no. 7 seed LaSalle rode the 44 save effort of Jake Windbiel (in photo at left) and goals from five different skaters en route to a series deadlock 5-3 win over no. 2 seed Elmira.

The Vipers have now won two straight home games to even the best of seven playoff set at 2-2.

In addition to save sensation Windbiel — who is a signed 2008 birth year prospect of the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League — LaSalle got goals from Grady Spicer, Adriano Tonin, Kieran McNally, Kade McGeen and Lucas Pougnet to provide the margin of victory. Spicer — another signed draft pick of the OHL Spitfires — also added an assist.

Game 5 in the series reverts back to Elmira on Monday night.
