Elmira up two on LaSalle
An inability to score has the no. 7 seed LaSalle Vipers down two games to none to the no. 2 seed Elmira Sugar Kings in their opening round playoff series.
Playing at home, Elmira upended LaSalle by 4-1 and 2-0 scores in the opening two matches of the best of seven, Greater Ontario Hockey League Western Conference set.
The series now shifts to the Vollmer Centre in LaSalle this week for 7 p.m. games on Wednesday and Saturday.

In the series opener, Shawn Costello scored the only goal for LaSalle and Jake Windbiel (in photo at left) stopped 35 of 39 shots in defeat.
Then, in Game 2, the Vipers were blanked despite firing 50 shots at Elmira’s overage goalie Liam Reid.
Meanwhile, Windbiel — who is a signed 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft pick of the Windsor Spitfires — made 34 more saves for LaSalle. The 6 foot 4, 215 pound Windbiel thus stopped 69 of 75 shots for a .920 save percentage in the two losses.
