Spitfires send a message
It was three games in three days against three teams well above the .500 mark. And who knew to expect from a Windsor Spitfires team that was coming off back to back losses to fellow contenders in the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League?
Well, the Spitfires answered that question with a clear cut answer in skating to three wins in succession to close out a wildly successful week.
Spitfires 4, Peterborough Petes 3. Captain Liam Greentree capped a two goal regulation time outing with the only goal of the shootout, defenseman Jakub Fibigr also found range and Joey Costanzo made 25 saves as Windsor began its rebound week with a home ice victory.
Spitfires 6, London Knights 1. Skating into hostile territory down the 401 to London did not affect Windsor one bit. Liam Greentree scored three more goals, Ethan Belchetz bagged his 33rd of the season and trade deadline acquisition Alex Pharand also tallied as the Spitfires cuffed the Knights. Joey Costanzo made 15 saves in the Windsor net for his 29th win of the season.
Spitfires 3, Barrie Colts 0. Returning to the friendly faces of their fans at the WFCU Center, the Spitfires capped a perfect week against the hottest team in the OHL. by blanking Barrie. Liam Greentree scored his sixth goal in three games, giving him 33 on the season and Ethan Belchetz clicked for his team leading 34th as Windsor remained in contention for first place in the Western Conference. Backup goalie Michael Newlove made 21 saves for his 10th win of the season as the surging Spitfires boosted their record to 39-14-7 with eight games to go on the regular season slate.
