Flint flashes firepower
8-1. 11-1. 10-0. Flint Firebirds are not only up three games to none on the Owen Sound Attack in their opening round Ontario Hockey League playoff series but they have outscored their opponents by an overwhelming 29-2 margin.
After taking the first two games of the best of seven Western Conference set at home by 8-1 and 11-1 scores, Flint went into Owen Sound on Monday and left with a 10-0 whitewash. Game 4 in the one-sided series between the no. 3 seed Firebirds and the no. 6 seed Attack is slated for Wednesday in Owen Sound.
Flint 10, Owen Sound 0. Being on the road could not slow the Firebirds down in Game 3. Darian Anderson and Nathan Aspinall each scored two goals while solo markers were tallied by Ihnat Pazii, Brady Smith, Ryland Cunningham, Chris Thibodeau, Alex Kostov and Jimmy Lombardi. Mason Vaccari made 32 saves for the shutout.
Firepower. No less than eight Firebirds have at least five points in the three games to date. They are Jacob Battaglia (3-7-10), Nathan Aspinall (4-5-9), Darian Anderson (4-3-7), Chris Thibodeau (3-4-7), Jimmy Lombardi (3-3-6), Kevin He (2-4-6), Ryland Cunningham (2-3-5) and Alex Kostov (2-3-5.)
