Ex goalie is back in the OHL
Graduated goalie Jake Paterson has returned to the Ontario Hockey League — and the Kitchener Rangers — as a goalie coach.
The 32-year old Paterson has been hired by the reigning OHL champs from Kitchener in a dual role of goalie coach and video coach.
It is a return to the OHL for Paterson, who was a third round pick by the Detroit Red Wings at the 2012 National Hockey League draft. Paterson played parts of five OHL seasons with the Saginaw Spirit before finishing up with Kitchener during the ’14-15 season.
Paterson also represented Canada at the 2013 and 2014 IIHF World Junior Championships before playing professionally in the American Hockey League, East Coast Hockey League and in Europe.
Most recently, Paterson spent the past two seasons as a goalie coach in the Greater Ontario Hockey League with both the Elmira Sugar Kings and Listowel Cyclones.
Kitchener general manager Michael McKenzie noted that Paterson “will be a great addition to our organization. He understands what it takes and the highs and lows of being a goaltender at this level.”
