Elmira wins roadie in LaSalle
Brendan Gerber clicked for the hat trick and the visiting Elmira Sugar Kings made Tyler Ertel a winner in his debut as head coach in a 5-3 verdict over the LaSalle Vipers tonight.
Gerber, a 2007 birth year forward who is in his fourth season in the Greater Ontario Hockey League, now has 14 goals in 18 games for Elmira thus far in the ’26-27 campaign.
With the 55-year old Ertel — a former Ontario Hockey League scoring star with the Windsor Spitfires et al — at the helm, the win for Elmira halted a four game losing skid and boosted its record to 7-10-1 on the season. Ertel was hired by Elmira earlier in the week after the Sugar Kings parted ways with Cory McRae.
For LaSalle, who got goals from Charlie Roberts, captain Connor Chartrand and ace defenceman Luke St. John, the loss dropped its record to 7-9-0.
