There will be little time to rest for the LaSalle Vipers of the Greater Ontario Hockey League. After scoring a 3-2 home ice win over the Strathroy Rockets on Wednesday, LaSalle will play host to new head coach Tyler Ertel and the Elmira Sugar Kings on Saturday at 7 p.m.  before heading to Chatham to face off against the Maroons on Sunday evening.

Viper Venom. Goalie Cam Ingram made 33 saves in the Vipers’ Wednesday win over Strathroy. Meanwhile, forward Mateo Vilardi tallied twice and  captain Connor Chartrand had a solo score as LaSalle improved its record to 7-8-0 to remain in the thick of things in the Western Conference. Vilardi is tied for the LaSalle scoring lead with six goals, six assists, 12 points after netting six goals, 18 assists, 24 points all of last season.

Ertel In Elmira. Former Ontario Hockey League scoring star Tyler Ertel brings Elmira to LaSalle on Saturday as the new head coach of the Sugar Kings. Elmira hired the 55-year old Ertel earlier this week. The Sugar Kings have a record of 6-10-1, have lost three in a row and are 2-7-1 in their last 10 outings … Ertel, a retired school teacher, is no stranger to the game. He has been an assistant coach in the OHL with the Soo Greyhounds as recent as a couple of years ago. And as a player, Ertel had a sensational four year career in the OHL as a top forward with the North Bay Centennials, Windsor Spitfires and his hometown Kitchener Rangers … During his one and only season in Windsor — the ’90-91 campaign — while playing for head coach Brad (Motor City Smitty) Smith, Ertel was second on the Spitfires scoring chart with 51 goals, 58 assists, 109 points while racking up 131 minutes in penalties in 76 games, regular season and playoffs included. He is the son of Bob Ertel, an OHL legend who coached and managed in Kitchener.
