Bulldogs draw first blood

Mount Brydges Bulldogs are in position to use home ice to take a commanding lead on the Petrolia Flyers in their opening round Provincial Jr. Hockey League playoff series.

The Bulldogs skated to an 8-5 road decision in Petrolia on Thursday to take a 1-0 lead in the best of five West Yeck Division series. Game 2 is slated for Saturday night at 7:30 at Tri Town Ice Arena in Mount Brydges.

In the 8-5 series opening win for Mount Brydges, J.J. Fogarty fired in three goals and added a pair of assists. Ben Funston chipped in with a pair of goals for the Bulldogs while solo tallies were netted by Noah Cameron, Luke Boers and Matt Van Bommel.

Mount Brydges finished in fifth place among the eight teams of the West Yeck during the regular season, just one point back of fourth seed Petrolia.
