Belchetz sparks Spitfires
The Spitfires came off the holiday break the same way they went into it. With a win. Ethan Belchetz banged in his 19th and 20th goals of the season and Windsor rang up a 4-1 road romp over the Flint Firebirds.
Sunday’s victory by Windsor moved it to within two points of first place Flint atop the Western Conference of the Ontario Hockey League. The Spitfires, with 50 points from a record of 23-8-4, hold a game in hand on the 24-8-4 Firebirds.
Besides Belchetz, defenseman Conor Walton and rookie Beksultan Makysh also scored goals for the Spitfires, who got 28 saves from overage puck stopper Joey Costanzo. Costanzo now has a record of 18-4-2 with a 1.90 goals against average and .921 save percentage.
