Belchetz breaks clavicle
A significant injury to star forward Ethan Belchetz looms as a major blow to the Ontario Hockey League championship aspirations of the Windsor Spitfires. A hulking 6 foot 5, 225 pound power forward with a 2008 birth date, Belchetz could be out for the rest of this season after breaking his left clavicle at a recent practice of the Spitfires.
Spitfires general manager Billy Bowler addressed the situation, noting that Belchetz “is an important part of our team both on and off the ice. While this is a tough setback, we know Ethan will attack the rehab process with the same commitment and professionalism that he brings to us every day.”
The Spitfires made Belchetz the first overall pick at the 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft. He is projected as a first round pick at this year’s National Hockey League Draft.
Belchetz currently leads the Spitfires in goals with 34.
The Spitfires are in a torrid race for second place with the Flint Firebirds in the OHL’s Western Conference with eight games to play on the ’25-26 regular season schedule.
