Area PJHL teams advance

Essex 73’s and Lakeshore Canadiens have both moved on to the second round of the playoffs in the West Stobbs Division of the Provincial Jr. Hockey League.  Meanwhile, the Amherstburg Admirals can also do so tonight with a win over the Mooretown Flags.

No. 1 seed Essex swept the Walpole Island Wild in four straight games in the opening round of the playoffs while no. 2 seed Lakeshore did the same to the Dresden Kings.

Julian Gignac paced Lakeshore to its series win with five goals. For Essex, Wyatt Goudie, Austin Guevremont and Luke Sherk all tallied four goals apiece.

As for Amhertsburg, the fifth seed Admirals can move on to the next round with a win over no. 4 seed Mooretown tonight. Game time is 7:00 at the Libro Credit Union Centre in Amherstburg. The Admirals lead the best of seven series three games to two.
