First for cool kid Cole Guizzetti
He looked like he belonged — and then some — in the Ontario Hockey League right from his first shift as a 2010 birth year rookie with the Flint Firebirds. Cole Guizzetti, a 5 foot 6, 155 pound forward with speed, skill and smarts, had a well earned assist in his OHL debut on Friday as Flint eked out a 4-2 road decision over the Windsor Spitfires.
A Sault Ste. Marie native who Flint took in the third round of the 2026 OHL priority selections draft from Upper Canada College, Guizzetti did all the work in setting up Flint captain Jimmy Lombardi for a goal that gave the Firebirds a 2-1 lead just past the 14 minute mark of the second period.
Guizzetti used his separation speed to elude Windsor defenders and race along the wall into the Spitfires zone before skating behind the net and putting a perfect pass on the stick of Lombardi for the Flint goal. For the night, Guizzetti was a +2 and really stood out.
Guizzetti did not play in Flint’s regular season opener but answered the bell in the Firebirds second game of the campaign, the Friday night road win over Windsor. The youngster was a going concern on each and every shift for the Firebirds and looked nothing like a fresh faced rookie playing in his first OHL game.
