LaSalle Vipers were less than a full period from forcing a seventh and deciding game in their opening round Greater Ontario Hockey League playoff series with the heavily favoured Elmira Sugar Kings.

Leading by a 3-2 score four minutes into the third period, LaSalle would suddenly surrender three goals in 97 seconds to Elmira. The Sugar Kings would tally two more third period scores en route to an eventual 7-4 win that gave them the Western Conference playoff series four games to two.

The no. 7 seed Vipers had leads of 2-0 and 3-2 in front of close to 1,000 fans at the Vollmer Centre only to have the no. 2 seed Sugar Kings take control for most of the third period.

Four players scored solo goals for LaSalle. Josh Lepain, Max Brocklehurst, local lads Connor Chartrand (in photo at left) and Nic Rosati all found the back of the Elmira net while defenseman Luke St. John assisted on two of the markers, giving the 2009 birth year rookie four helpers in the six game series.

Brocklehurst, Rosati and St. John are among the younger players on LaSalle as Ontario Hockey League draft picks of the Windsor Spitfires.
