Windsor’s Makaric has Spirit
Saginaw Spirit of the Ontario Hockey League has brought aboard the well prepared Kyle Makaric as a new assistant coach. A Windsor product, the 36-year old Makaric has an extensive coaching background.

Besides being on the staff of the University of Windsor Lancers, Makaric has also coached in the Central Canada Hockey League, the Ontario Jr. Hockey League, the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League — and most recently with the Windsor-based BioSteel Sports Academy.
He has also scouted for the Brampton Steelheads of the OHL.
Makaric relayed to Hockey News Windsor that it is “not ideal leaving the kids at the school (BioSteel) but this was too good of an opportunity to pass up.
“Saginaw is a great organization. I am extremely excited to be joining (general manager) Dave Drinkill, (head coach) Chris Lazary and the staff in Saginaw,” added Makaric.
Notably, Makaric’s wife — who he married in 2021 — is an American who has been residing in Michigan.
Meanwhile, Saginaw general manager Dave Drinkill commented on the hiring of Makaric, noting that “Kyle has worked tirelessly to build his coaching resume from the ground up and his attention to detail has brought success at each stop.”
