Playing without four injured regulars not to mention forward A.J. Spellacy at the Team USA camp was not enough to slow down the airborne Windsor Spitfires in their last game before the Christmas holiday break.

Despite being minus Spellacy, fellow forwards Owen Outwater and Ethan Belchetz and defensemen Tnias Mathurin and Conor Walton, the Spitfires skated to a 4-1 decision over the visiting Guelph Storm on Thursday.

Joey Costanzo

Liam Greentree, with his 21st goal of the season and Noah Morneau, Ryan Abraham and Cole Davis, all with their 11th markers, provided the Spitfire scoring in front of ace goalie Joey Costanzo, who made 27 saves in winning his 20th game of the season. Costanzo’s 20 wins are the most of any goalie in the Ontario Hockey League thus far this season.

Windsor, which is in first place among the five teams of the West Division and second in the 10 member Western Conference, now takes a record of 23-7-3 into the break. The Spitfires have a home record of 14-2-1 and are 9-5-2 away from the home ice of the WFCU Center.

SPITS AT THE SOO: On the road is where Windsor will head after the break with back to back games up north on December 28-29 against the Soo Greyhounds.

The Greyhounds have taken two of three games from the Spitfires thus far this season. The Spitfires began the six game regular season slate between the two teams with a 5-0 whitewash. The Greyhounds then responded with a 3-1 road victory and then won 2-1 in overtime in the Soo from which the Spitfires gained a point.
