It is the way any team would want to begin a three game road trip up north — with a win. The Spitfires soared to a 5-0 lead and then held off a three goal push by the North Bay Battalion to leave town with a 5-3 verdict.

The Thursday night triumph for Windsor improved its record among the elite of the Ontario Hockey League to 14-4-1 ahead of two more road tests — tonight in Sudbury and Sunday afternoon in Sault Ste. Marie.

Five players scored solo goals for the Spitfires in the win over the Troops of North Bay, including rookie defenseman Carter Hicks with his first OHL tally. Fellow rookie Ethan Belchetz, Ryan Abraham, Liam Greentree and defenseman Anthony Cristoforo also scored for Windsor.

Spitfires goalie Joey Costanzo helped shut the door on the Battalion. Costanzo made 35 saves as Windsor was outshot 38-21, including 31-11 over the final two periods.

The game was the 150th regular season OHL contest for Spitfires overage forward Noah Morneau. The feat is all the more noteworthy considering that Morneau was picked by Windsor in the 15th and final round of the 2020 OHL priority selections draft.
