Import lamplighter Ilya Protas potted a pair of goals, A.J. Spellacy also tallied twice and rookie goalie Carter Froggett stood tall with 24 saves as the Spitfires halted a two game losing skid tonight with a 7-1 cuffing of the Kingston Frontenacs.

Windsor spotted Kingston an early 1-0 lead but then wound up and overwhelmed the visitors with seven unanswered goals  to improve its record on the ’24-25 Ontario Hockey League season to 41-15-5 — and clinch first place in the West Division for the third time in the past four years.

For Protas, the goals were his 44th and 45th of the season while Spellacy’s pair were his 15th and 16th. As for Froggett, who got the nod in favour of  veteran starter Joey Costanzo, the towering tender improved his record to 8-5-1 with a tidy effort in the net.

Captain Liam Greentree, with his 44th goal of the season, Ryan Abraham with his 25th and Cole Davis with his 18th scored for the Spitfires, who chased Kingston starter Charlie Schenkel after two periods with five goals on 20 shots.

The win for the Spitfires avenged a 4-2 loss at Kingston on Feb. 28 when Schenkel made 35 saves and was the game’s first star.
