Spits sign another plum
Another day, another high pick from the 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft inked by the Spitfires.
The latest to sign up with the Spitfires is defenseman Carter Hicks, who Windsor took with its second of two second round picks, 24th overall.
The 6 foot 1, 165 pound defender was the captain of the London Jr. Knights of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario during the 2023-2024 season. Regular season and playoffs included for the Jr. Knights in ’23-24, Hicks totalled 11 goals, 25 assists, 36 points in 40 games, making him the second highest scoring defenseman in the Alliance.
Spitfires general manager Billy Bowler gave multiple words of praise about Hicks.
“Carter is a lively and active defenseman, with a good hockey IQ,” said Bowler. “He is responsible in the defensive zone. “He’s just a really good player … he has the leadership qualities that everyone is looking for.”
The signing of Hicks follows the earlier draft class of ’24 commitments made to the Spitfires by forwards Ethan Belchetz and J.C. Lemieux. Belchetz was taken first overall by Windsor while Lemieux went with the first pick of the second round, 22nd overall.
