Spits sign ’08 defender
And the picks just keep on coming. Andrew Robinson has become the latest 2008 birth year player from Windsor’s 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft class to sign with the Spitfires.
A 6 foot, 185 pound defenseman, Robinson was the second of two third round priority selection picks snagged by Spitfires’ general manager Billy Bowler at the ’24 OHL draft. And Robinson — who has 34 points in 53 games for the Georgetown Raiders of the Ontario Jr. Hockey League thus far this season — is the seventh plum player from the ’24 OHL draft haul to be signed by Bowler and the Spitfires.

Besides Robinson, the others are forward Ethan Belchetz (first round), forward J.C. Lemieux (second round), defenseman Carter Hicks (second round), forward Max Brocklehurst (third round), goalie Jake Windbiel (seventh round) and forward Ethan Garden (ninth round.)
Belchetz, Lemieux, Hicks and Garden are all active members of the Windsor roster while Brocklehurst and Windbiel are both developing with the Spitfires’ nearby affiliate in the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League, the LaSalle Vipers. Windbiel and Brocklehurst have also seen OHL action with the Spitfires this season.
As for Robinson, who will make his OHL debut for the Spitfires tonight against the visiting Soo Greyhounds, aforementioned Windsor GM Billy Bowler commented on the signing of the young defenseman.
“Robinson is a great signing to lock up another OHL caliber player for our club,” relayed Bowler said. “He is a well rounded defenceman and he can play in all situations.”
