The Spitfires capped a playoff series opener with three third period goals en route to a 7-2 victory over the visiting Soo Greyhounds in Game 1 of the best of seven set.

Windsor dominated from the outset and had leads of 3-0 and 4-2 before the third period explosion in front of close to 4,600 fans at the WFCU Center. The Spitfires outshot the Greyhounds by a 37-16 margin.

Captain Liam Greentree and overage mainstay Noah Morneau clicked for two goals apiece to spark the Spitfires. Cole Davis, Luke McNamara and defenseman Carson Woodall netted solo tallies for the Spitfires while import rookie Ilya Protas had four assists. Overage defenseman Wyatt Kennedy stood tall on the Windsor blue line and was a plus 4 on the night.

Travis Hayes and Owen Allard replied for the Greyhounds.

Game 2 in the first round, best of seven, Ontario Hockey League Western Conference series is set for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at the WFCU Center. Games 3 and 4 are in Sault Ste. Marie next Monday and Wednesday.
