Spitfires soar over Soo
Joey Costanzo made 27 stops and several skaters had two point sessions as the surging Spitfires swiped the visiting Soo Greyhounds 5-0 on Thursday. The win boosted Windsor’s record to 3-0-1 while the Soo has dropped three straight games to start the ’24-25 Ontario Hockey League season.

As Costanzo improved his record to 3-0-0 with a 1.98 goals against average and .938 save percentage, A.J. Spellacy, Jack Nesbitt and Nathan Gaymes all had one goal, one assist outings and captain Liam Greentree set up a pair of markers for Windsor, which has outscored its opponents 17-2 through its two home games to date.
Ilya Protas and overage defender Tnias Mathurin also scored for the Spitfires.
The Spitfires chased Greyhound starting goalie Landon Miller less than 12 minutes into the opening period with three goals on seven shots. A Red Wings draft pick, Miller has now allowed seven goals on 18 shots in 32 minutes of action for a 13.19 goals against average and .611 save percentage in two abbreviated starts this season. Detroit took the lanky puck stopper in the fourth round of the 2024 National Hockey League draft.
Next up for the Greyhounds are two more road games this weekend — tonight in Guelph and Sunday afternoon in Sarnia. The Spitfires play next on Saturday night in Brantford.
