Spitfires by the numbers
The going is definitely good for the Windsor Spitfires. Especially in the total points department as the turnaround from last season to this one continues.
The surging Spitfires of ’24-25 eclipsed their point total from the entire ’23-24 season on Thursday with a 5-1 victory over the visiting Erie Otters.
Windsor now has 45 points from a record of 21-6-3 through 30 games. The Spitfires had 44 points all of last season and finished 19th among the 20 teams of the Ontario Hockey League with a record of 18-42-8.
A pair of National Hockey League League draft picks sparked the Spitfires to their latest win.
Captain Liam Greentree (Los Angeles Kings) and fellow forward A.J. Spellacy (Chicago Blackhawks) had two goals apiece. Rookie forward J.C. Lemieux wound up the Windsor scoring and goalie Joey Costanzo won his league leading 18th game.
Greentree now has 20 goals on the season, Spellacy has 10 and Lemieux has five.
Up next for the Spitfires is a home and home set with the London Knights. The arch rivals meet tonight in London (7:00) and Saturday evening in Windsor (7:05.) The ageless Steve Bell will have the play by play call of both games on radio station AM 800 CKLW.
