Nathan Day, a 6 foot 4, 205 pound puck stopper who was picked by Flint in the third round of the 2021 OHL priority selections draft, recently recorded his 63rd win a Firebirds uniform.

Victory number 63 for Day in the Flint net surpassed the previous record for most wins by a Firebirds goalie that was held by Luke Cavallin. Cavallin, now a veteran of the minor pro ranks, ended a four year run for the Firebirds in ’21-22 when he recorded 36 of his 62 career wins for Flint.

Day, who served as a backup to Cavallin as a rookie in ’21-22, has been a dependable workhorse between the pipes for the Firebirds since the ’22-23 season. With a 2005 birth date, Day was selected by the Edmonton Oilers in the sixth round of the 2023 National Hockey League draft.

Day is a major reason why Flint is in a frantic seeding battle for the sixth, seventh and eighth playoff spots with the Sarnia Sting and Soo Greyhounds among the 10 teams of the Western Conference as the OHL heads into the stretch run of the ’24-25 season.
