Nesbitt nets the winner

Jack Nesbitt’s 13th goal of the season proved to be a lucky charm for the Spitfires on Saturday. Nesbitt notched the game winner with less than three minutes to play in the third period to propel the Spitfires to a well deserved 3-2 verdict over the visiting London Knights in a battle between two of the top teams in the Ontario Hockey League.

Windsor widely outshot London by a 42-15 margin but needed a pair of third period tallies to pull out the come from behind win before close to 5,700 fans at the WFCU Centre.

A.J. Spellacy scored his 11th of the season, fellow forward Cole Davis clicked for his 10th and Joey Costanzo picked up his 19th win of the season for the Spitfires. Rookie defenseman Carter Hicks, a London product, had a pair of assists for Windsor. Hicks, who was a second round pick by the Spitfires at the 2024 OHL priority selections draft, now has one goal, five assists, six points in just 20 games for the Spitfires.

Windsor, which has now has 47 points from a record of 22-7-3, is just two points back of first place London in the Western Conference standings, though the Knights have played two fewer games than the Spitfires.

The Spitfires are home to the Guelph Storm on Thursday at 7:05 p.m. at the WFCU Centre. It will be Windsor’s last game before the Christmas break.
