Mount Brydges net gain
Andy Friyia wants to see the Mount Brydges Bulldogs reduce their goals against come the 2024-2025 Provincial Jr. Hockey League season. Which is why the Bulldogs’ president has hired the renowned Bill Dark to be the goalie coach in Mount Brydges.
Mount Brydges finished in second place among the nine teams of the PJHL’s Yeck Division in 2023-2024 with a record of 29-9-2. But the Bulldogs allowed 40 more goals than the first place Thamesford Trojans while finishing just one point behind the division leaders.
Enter Dark being brought in by Friyia as the goalie coach in Mount Brydges for the ’24-25 season.
Friyia told Hockey News Windsor that he has a previous association with the 63-year old Dark.
“I first witnessed Bill’s expertise when he worked with my daughter a decade ago and I was thoroughly impressed,” Friyia said of Dark. “When aiming for less than 100 goals against in the upcoming regular season, you can’t pass up the chance to bring on someone like Bill Dark.”
Dark, who resides in London, will also continue his duties as the director of goaltending in charge of scouting and development for the Windsor Spitfires of the Ontario Hockey League.
As a goalie coach, Dark has been part of OHL championship teams with the London Knights, Hamilton Bulldogs and Windsor. Besides the OHL titles with three different teams, Dark was also the goalie coach for Windsor when the Spitfires won the Memorial Cup in 2009.
