Two teams that stood a mere four points apart in the final regular season standings will face off in the second round of the Provincial Jr. C Hockey League playoffs.

Fourth place Mount Brydges Bulldogs will be up against the top seed Petrolia Flyers in a West Yeck Division, best of seven series. Mount Brydges put up 55 regular season points compared to 59 for Petrolia.

Both teams are fresh from opening round playoff triumphs. Petrolia swept no. 8 seed Lucan Irish in four games while Mount Brydges needed six games to oust no. 5 seed North Middlesex Stars. Mount Brydges had finished just five points ahead of North Middlesex during the regular season but Bulldogs president Andy Friyia was confident ahead of the opening round showdown between the King’s Highway 81 rivals.

“We were confident going into the series knowing that we put North Middlesex  out the last two seasons and were 4-0 in our last four regular season games,” Friyia relayed to Hockey News Windsor.

Still, Friyia gave credit to the arch rivals from down the highway.

“NM played their way back into the series after being down 3-0. We have a great long time rivalry with them and it was a classic Highway 81 series  that witnessed some highlight reel goals and incredible goaltending,” added Friyia.

Noah Cameron sparked Mount Brydges to the opening round triumph over North Middlesex with five goals, eight assists, 13 points in the six games. And Aiden Berry was a standout between the pipes for Mount B with a 4-2-0 record, 2.18 goals against average, .942 save percentage and one shutout.
