Windsor product Luke St. John will most likely get to stay home — or close to it — for a ’25-26 season of development.

A 5 foot 10, 160 pound, 2009 birth year defenseman, St. John was a 13th round pick by the Windsor Spitfires from the  Windsor Jr. Spitfires of the Under 16 level of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario at the 2025 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft.

Billy Bowler, who is the general manager for the OHL Spitfires, will provide direction for St. John as to where he might develop in ’25-26. Possible destinations include three area teams — the Under 18 Jr. Spitfires, the Jr. B LaSalle Vipers, or the Jr. C Lakeshore Canadiens.

As St. John is known as an offensive type defenseman, Frank Evola, who is the scouting director for the OHL Spitfires, noted the upside of the young defender and what he needs to work on come the ’25-26 season.

“He has a lot of offensive ability,” Evola said of St. John. “There are things we like. He can really zip the puck and is kind of a power play guy. If he can work on other parts of his game, the door is  open for him.”

In 35 games, regular season and playoffs included for the U16 Jr. Spitfires in ’24-25, St. John fired up 14 goals, 13 assists, 27 points.
