Jake the Viper snake
Spitfires plum goalie prospect Jake Windbiel is standing tall and answering the call through his first 15 games with Windsor’s junior B affiliate team in nearby LaSalle.
The 6 foot 4, 190 pound puck stopper with a 2008 birth date has a record of 10-5-0 with a 2.68 goals against average and .922 save percentage with the LaSalle Vipers of the Greater Ontario Jr. Hockey League.
His statistics are even more noteworthy considering that the GOJHL is a league that features a high number of older players born in 2004, 2005 and 2006.
Windsor took Windbiel in the seventh round of the 2024 Ontario Hockey League priority selections draft from the Chicago Mission AAA program and he subsequently signed a card with the Spitfires.
Bill Dark, who is the director of goaltending in charge of scouting and development for the OHL Spitfires, is high on Windbiel and his development to date.
“He is really progressing well in junior B,” Dark relayed to Hockey News Windsor. “It is a tough league for a 16 year goalie. He is also getting on the ice at practice with the Spitfires and has (goalie coach) Stan (Matiwijiw) working on his game. The kid has a big upside.”
