A thriller of a 12 game playoff push by the Mount Brydges Bulldogs ended on Tuesday with yet another one goal loss to the top seed Petrolia Flyers.

Before an overflow crowd at Tri Township Arena, the visitors from Petrolia edged Mount Brydges by a 3-2 score to advance to the championship round of the West Yeck Division of the Provincial Jr. C Hockey League.

In winning the best of seven series four games to two, the Flyers upended the upstart Bulldogs three times by the 3-2 score. And in Petrolia’s other win, the Flyers needed overtime to take a 6-5 triumph.

All six games in the series were decided by one goal except one — and that was a 6-4 win by Mount Brydges that ended with an empty net tally.

In all, Mount Brydges won six of 12 playoff games. The no. 4 seed Bulldogs had started the playoffs by ousting the no. 5 seed North Middlesex Stars in six games.

Top playoff performers for Mount B included Noah Cameron with five goals, 14 assists, 19 points, Nolan Griffiths and Ben Landers with six goals each and goalie Aiden Berry with a 6-4-1 record to go with a .939 save percentage and 2.76 goals against average.

Bulldogs president Andy Friyia summed up the end of the season to Hockey News Windsor by noting that “losing never feels good. With our three players injured in the car accident on January 25 and the serious injury by another of our players in Game 5 (of the Petrolia series) we faced a lot of adversity. I have never seen a season end so emotionally. It was just different. We will take some time to decompress and start planning for the ’25-26 season.”
