Bergeron a ‘big get’ for Spits
As Canadian Hockey League import draft picks Michal Svrcek and Bogdan Yakushevsky are incoming forwards who are poised to be prime players for the Spitfires come the ’26-27 Ontario Hockey League season so too is centre Ty Bergeron who hails from the Metro Detroit area.
Bergeron, who Windsor nabbed in the third round of the 2025 OHL priority selections draft from the Detroit HoneyBaked AAA program, spent the ’25-26 season with the Muskegon Lumberjacks of the Tier 1 level United States Hockey League.
A 2009 birth year skater with size at 6 foot 2, 195 pounds, Bergeron (in photo at left) has opted to play in the OHL for the Spitfires this season, having signed with Windsor earlier this summer. And Spitfires general manager Billy Bowler — as is the case with aforementioned forwards Svrcek and Yakushevsky — expects Bergeron to be a key contributor as an OHL rookie in ’26-27 especially with so many productive performers having moved on to either the pro or National Collegiate Athletic Association ranks.
“Having signed Bergeron is a real big get for our program. Ty has a ton of upside,” relayed Bowler. “He has matured both physically and mentally as playing junior hockey as an ’09 birth year kid is not easy to do. We expect him to step in and make an impact for us this season.”
Of note, Bergeron is represented by ageless player agent Eddie Mio of Octane Sports. A former National Hockey League goalie, Mio is a Windsor native who grew up on Lillian Ave. between Erie St. E. and Giles Blvd. E. in the Via Italia area.
