Spits solve Ranger riddle
Finally. After six straight post season losses to Kitchener dating back to the second round of the 2025 Ontario Hockey League playoffs, the Spitfires have a win over the Rangers.
And it came in a virtual must win scenario on Monday before just over 5,000 fans at Windsor’s WFCU Centre. Trailing 2-0 in the best of seven Western Conference final after successive one-goal setbacks in Kitchener, the Spitfires scored a 4-2 win over the Blueshirts.
Game 4 in the series is slated for the WFCU on Wednesday at 7:05 with Windsor still trailing in the series, albeit now by a 2-1 margin.
The Spitfires never trailed in the eventual Game 3 victory. Windsor had leads of 2-0, 2-1, 3-1 and 3-2 before hustling forward Ethan Garden iced the match with an empty net tally.
Alex Pharand and defensemen Jakub Fibigr and Andrew Robinson also scored for Windsor, which was outshot 23-17 and received strong net minding from Joey Costanzo.
Cole Davis chipped in with two assists for the Spitfires, and along with Pharand and Garden, represented three of Windsor’s most effective players in the 4-2 win.
