U16 Sun County folds
Sun County Panthers represent a reputable AAA program in the Windsor-Essex area that has helped to develop a bevy of players for the Ontario Hockey League over the years including three who were picked within the first three rounds of the 2025 priority selections draft.
But Sun County will not be icing a team within the Under 16 AAA level Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario for the ’26-27 season. Team officials confirmed the decision to withdraw their U16 AAA team for ’26-27 to Hockey News Windsor.
Sun County has been part of Alliance Hockey since 1999.
The end result of the Sun County U16 AAA shutdown after two nights of on-ice activity earlier this week concluded with the cancellation of an exhibition game against the Chatham-Kent Cyclones that was scheduled for tonight in Essex.
Notably, an on-ice tryout session of prospective players for Sun County on Tuesday of this week included nine forwards, six defensemen and three goalies.
