Windsor native Frank Evola and the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League have mutually parted ways after just one season together. The 53 year old Evola was hired as Niagara’s general manager — and signed to a three year contact — ahead of the ’25-26 season.

Evola has a long association with the OHL and hockey in general, including a gig with his hometown Windsor Spitfires as director of scouting that began in 2017 and ended in 2025. Prior to joining the Spitfires in 2017, Evola was a scout for the Oshawa Generals of the OHL from 2007 to 2016.

Evola has also been a head coach at the AAA under 16 level with the Sun County Panthers, Mississauga Reps and Vaughan Kings — and the director of coaching for the Windsor Jr. Spitfires AAA program.

With Evola as the GM in Niagara in ’25-26, the IceDogs finished in seventh place in the Eastern Conference — albeit with a winning record of 32-30-6. Niagara then lost in the first round of this spring’s playoffs to the Barrie Colts.
