Espanola via U18 Spitfires

Matthew Spencer is heading north to play junior hockey. The 2008 birth year forward, who played at the Under 18 level with the Windsor Jr. Spitfires of the Minor Hockey Alliance of Ontario in ’24-25, has signed with the Espanola Paper Kings of the Northern Ontario Jr. Hockey League ahead of the ’25-26 season.

Espanola general manager Marc Gagnon relayed to Hockey News Windsor that the Paper Kings are “looking forward to continuing Matthew’s development and help him achieve his goal of playing in the (Ontario Hockey League) with the Oshawa Generals. We are certainly looking forward to having a talented player such as Matthew in our line up.”

The five foot nine, 155 pound Spencer tallied six goals, 15 assists, 21 points in 40 games with the U18 Jr. Spitfires in ’24-25. He was a 15th round pick by Oshawa from Windsor’s U16 Alliance Hockey program at the 2024 OHL priority selections draft.
