NHL pick bolsters Brantford
First year general manager Spencer Hyman continues to build up the Brantford Bulldogs ahead of the ’25-26 Ontario Hockey League season. Already projected to be a contender, the Bulldogs have been further bolstered via multiple off season acquisitions by Hyman, the latest being the signing of free agent defenseman Edison Engle, who was picked by the Winnipeg Jets in the sixth round of the recent National Hockey League draft.

Hyman noted that Engle “is an elite two way defenceman who makes our blue line deeper and more dynamic … he is a deceptive player with great speed and skating ability … we believe he can impact the game in all three zones.”
Meanwhile, Winnipeg’s director of amateur scouting Mark Hillier referred to the 6 foot 2, 175 pound American born Engle as “one of the best (2007 birth year) skaters that we thought were available in the (NHL) draft. So it’s a good opportunity for us to take him late. We think there’s more offensive ability to come from him in the future.”
Engle divided the ’24-25 season between the Des Moines Buccaneers and Dubuque Fighting Saints of the United States Hockey League and had 17 points in 54 games.
